Embrace Each Wave

Hey there, Surf Sisters!

Happy August! I’m checking in from sunny Karratha, West Aus, where it’s the best time of the year—cool evenings around 16°C and beautiful, sun-drenched days in the high 20s. No surf at the moment, but it’s still pretty magical! “And boy, do I have some thought explosions AKA my never ending brain spills to share with you! 😊”

First things first… Wondering how to squeeze in some self-love and personal time before the year ends? Look no further! Get ready for a splash of excitement and empowerment with our single-day mini retreat at the stunning Happy Valley, Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast! 🌊✨ Mark your calendars for September 15, 2024, and dive into a 4-hour experience packed with everything you need to rejuvenate and connect. Run, don’t walk, as we only have 1 spot left. So for more info head to Surf Events | Sisterhood of Surf. And if you’re feeling a bit unsure about surfing—let that go, girlfriend! 😊 It’s not just about catching waves; it’s about soaking up the beautiful coast, connecting with amazing women, and having a blast! PS: I’m still working on creating a body double to handle things in WA while I teleport to QLD to surf with you all! ♥♥♥

Looking ahead to 2025? Check out our EPIIIIIC surf experiences in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, or the Philippines! Surf Retreats | Sisterhood of Surf  You will see me in Sri Lanka as Angie and I have something exciting planned together........ and I’m seriously tempted to join in the Philippines too—pristine surf, crystal-clear waters, delicious food, fun, and inspiring women? YES PLEASE!

Quote of the Month.

In my last blog post, I mentioned feeling unexpectedly nervous as the departure date for the last SOS surf retreat approached, especially after a life-altering medical experience that I’m still bouncing back from. Isn’t it fascinating how wonderfully complex we humans are? Anyway, I came across this gem of a quote that perfectly captures life’s ups and downs: “Just as the ocean’s waves rise and fall, so do the tides of our lives. Embrace each wave and ride it with grace.” It made me grin and think, “Wow, that would’ve been a simpler way to describe my last blog!”—hahaha. Here’s to riding both the ocean waves and life’s waves with a big smile! 🌊✨🌊✨

Podcast, Book or Music Recos 🌊🎧📚

Looking for some great listens, reads, or tunes while waiting for your next surf session? I thought I’d share my latest literary and musical finds with you!

Poddy: "The Imperfects" – This show is all about keeping it real with life’s ups and downs. The very recent episode “Advancing Despite Adversity” is a gem, diving into resilience with some awesome perspectives.

Paper: I’m currently perusing the paper on Matilda Boseley’s "The Year I Met My Brain". It’s a fascinating mix of personal stories and research about living with ADHD.

Tunes: Ziggy Alberts, all the way, always! I’ve been revisiting his 2016 EP Four Feet in the Forest.

And if you have been on the SOS retreats and loved the music. Here is Angies Itunes Playlist, which is also a range of different good tunes https://music.apple.com/au/playlist/my-shazam-tracks/pl.u-ZmblD5atZRKrXR

Surf Tip.

Well, since I haven’t hit the waves in 78 days [INSERT ♫ ♫ ♫ ANNIE LENNOX SONG; WHYYYYY!?! ♫ ♫ ♫], here are some tips to keep you fit and ready for your next surf (and life in general):

Boost your surf performance with these fitness tips:

1.     Dynamic Stretching: Warm up with leg swings, arm circles, and torso twists before hitting the waves.

2.     Core Strength: Build stability with planks, Russian twists, and bicycle crunches.

3.     Flexibility: Enhance your range of motion with stretches for hamstrings, hip flexors, and shoulders. Yoga or Pilates is great for this!

4.     Balance Training: Improve balance with single-leg stands and balance board exercises.

5.     Leg Strength: Power up with squats, lunges, and calf raises.

6.     Cardio: Boost stamina with swimming, running, or cycling.

7.     Recovery: Keep your muscles fresh with foam rolling and rest days.

8.     Surf-Specific Drills: Practice paddle simulations and balance drills to ride waves better.

9.     Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet to fuel your surf sessions.

Catch more waves and ride them with ease! 🌊✨

If you’re looking for extra guidance, Angie, SoS Founder, Personal Trainer, and ALL-ROUND LEGEND, has wicked options for surf fitness and she told me she is currently creating a fun SPRING into SPRING 4 week program to wip all of us sisters into shape.

And if you live close to Brisbane, check out her Margate studio, online coaching, or free YouTube workouts with Online Sisters at Surf Sisters Fitness | Sisterhood of Surf.

See you next month-ish, and let me know if there are specific surf tips or info you’d like in the blog!

Love, Tahnee Xxx
