Oh Hello Surf Sisters!
I hope you’re tuning in from somewhere a bit cooler than where I’m writing this month’s newsletter—40°C and it's only the 1st of November, HELP 😊
A few things approaching. Sisterhood of Surfs 2nd Birthday, YEOW!
Santa and 2025... eeeep!
Can you believe it’s only 8 weeks until Christmas? The year has flown by, and we’re heading into the silly season. But there’s still time to wrap up those year-end commitments and check off the goals we set at the beginning of the year.
I’ve always been a bit skeptical of the “GET FIT FAST” and “LOSE BODY FAT IN 8 WEEKS” challenges. Maybe it’s because the all-or-nothing approach can be misleading. While short bursts of discipline can help us realign with our health and wellness goals, it’s really the small, everyday actions that create the biggest, lasting impact—boring, but true!
That’s why I was so thrilled about Angie’s latest idea when we caught up for our Zoom Dates. I also loved Angie's coaching on the 2 retreats I went on and love her philosophy of embracing fun and accessible approach to fitness: The 30-Day Sisterhood of Surf Challenge is coming on the 12th of November!
This could be just what you need to establish good habits and maybe even form new ones—especially as its pretty normal to overindulge in the end of year/ new year period – HELLO snacks and cheeky mocktails.
So, what’s this all about, you ask? Ever played bingo? (I’m definitely going to be the old lady coordinating bingo in my granny knickers and purple rinse—hahaha!) I’m excited to use my 30-day bingo card to set daily challenges that go beyond fitness; they encompass Movement, Mindset, Education, and Breathwork. Angie will be sending all details out this week.
Quote of the Month:
As I read the WhatsApp messages in my latest Sri Lanka Sisters retreat group chat, I can’t help but smile. Everyone comes from different walks of life, with various goals, levels of experience in surfing, and reasons for booking an epic SoS retreat adventure. I absolutely love learning about my new GalPals! My heart bursts when I read stories like, “… I’ve always wanted to travel solo, so I booked the trip…” or “… I started surfing in my 60s…” SLAY QUEEN! The recurring theme of “… I love challenging myself and pushing myself out of my comfort zone…” really resonates.
With this in mind, I’m reminded of a fitting quote by Eleanor Roosevelt:
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
🌊✨Podcast, Book, or Music Recos 🌊🎧📚 Looking for some great listens, reads, or tunes while you wait for your next surf session? Here are my latest finds!
Podcast: The Imperfects (I can’t help it—I’m obsessed with this show! 😂)
The latest episode, “An Awe-full Conversation,” features one of my favorite authors and journalists, Dr. Julia Baird. She discusses finding joy and purpose through ocean swimming, and how impactful nature and community can be when we say yes to adventure. Trust me, you’ll want to tune in!
Book: While I haven’t read it recently, I still get all the warm fuzzies thinking about Julia Baird’s book, Bright Shining: How Grace Changes Everything. It’s beautiful and inspiring, and I highly recommend it!
Tunes: Is anyone else loving Dean Lewis’s latest album? I’ve been playing The Epilogue on repeat during my commute, and it’s fantastic! This album marks a farewell to his first era as an artist. Dean reflects on the eight years he spent chasing success and how he’s ready to redefine what that means for him—no more obsessively checking likes on social media. It’s a powerful message that really resonates. Swoon!
